Grant Nimmo

Worm

6 February2 March 2014

From 6 February – 2 March, Chapter House Lane presents ‘Worm’ by Melbourne artist Grant Nimmo. Please join us for light refreshments under the cathedral arch on Thursday 6 February from 6-8pm.

Confused, subtly cynical, and sluggishly anti-theory, Grant Nimmo’s practice carries social commentary about the frustrating state of contemporary art, politics and cultural production. Tinged with humorous, yet melancholic, tales from his life, his works celebrate themes ranging from contemporary anxiety, self reflection, and cultural detachment, to environmentalism. Although Nimmo’s practice is largely painting based, it spreads through various windows into sculptural forms, publications, print making, and music.

Nimmo completed a Bachelor of Fine Art at Monash University in 2002, and a Postgraduate Diploma of Education at the University of Melbourne in 2005. Since then, he has participated in a number of group exhibitions in Australia and internationally. Recently, he has presented his work at the 2013 Art-Athina International Art Fair in Athens, Greece, the 2012 Melbourne Art Fair in Melbourne, Australia, and the 2011 Korean International Art Fair in Seoul, Korea. Grant has also held solo exhibitions in Australia with Anna Pappas Gallery, Melbourne, and Evan Hughes Gallery, Sydney. He has shown across Melbourne at various artist run platforms and contemporary art spaces including Westspace, Gertrude Contemporary, TCB art inc., Seventh, and Rearview Gallery.
