After seven years of operation and 63 shows, Chapter House Lane is saying adieu with a final exhibition and accompanying publication, Seven Year Itch.
We are breaking up. It’s not you, it’s us.
But let’s grab a coffee some time – no, seriously.
Since opening in 2011, Chapter House Lane has provided a rent and commission-free exhibition space in Melbourne’s CBD to champion contemporary artists, supported by a loyal community and sustained by a volunteer committee. Aside from two short temporary breaks and summer flings with alluring off-site projects, Chapter House Lane has been ‘going steady’ for a solid seven years. Now it is time to draw the curtains over our exhibition windows, the end of an affair. But let’s stay friends.
On 1 November, we invite you to our final exhibition and publication launch of Seven Year Itch, complete with music and performances in the laneway from 6-8pm. Seven Year Itch is our family photo album, our very own ‘this is your life’ montage. The artworks have been produced in response to an open invite to Chapter House Lane’s 136 previous exhibitors, asking artists to respond to their own ‘seven year itch.’ The show binds together a lineage of artists whose work has formed the history of Chapter House Lane, from individual solo shows and large-scale group exhibitions.
We would like to thank everyone for their generous contributions including: Tarik Ahlip, Matt Arbuckle, Ted Barraclough, Stephen Benwell, Sandra Black, Kirsty Budge, Aaron Carter, Olga Cironis, Alan Constable, Lane Cormicj, Archer Davies, Lynda Draper, Jackson Eaton, Naomi Eller, Bern Emmerichs, Eva Fernández, Emily Ferretti, Matlok Griffiths, Kez Hughes, Emily Hunt, Maddison Kitching, Robyne Latham, Tina Lee, Julian Martin, Alasdair McLuckie, Dan Moynihan, Pia Murphy, Grant Nimmo, Nabilah Nordin, Charles O’Loughlin, Alexander Ouchtomsky, Toby Pola, Oscar Perry, Sarah Poulgrain, Kate Robertson, Jonas Ropponen, Ben Sexton, Tai Snaith, Petrus Spronk, Vipoo Srivilasa, Georgia Szmerling, Jelena Telecki, Kate Tucker, Ronnie van Hout, Prue Venables, Peter Waples-Crowe and Gerry Wedd.
